2024 GS Trophy Day 2: Team USA Faces Sand Challenges in Namibia

Team USA hit some tough terrain on the second day of the 2024 BMW Motorrad GS Trophy in Namibia’s Erongo region. Partnered with Team Latin America, the combined teams tackled a challenging task right from the start. Using ropes, they had to lift a BMW R1300 GS over a gap. While they executed flawlessly, their slower pace dinged them in the rankings. They ended up 16th for the day’s first challenge.

Navigating sandy trails, dry riverbeds, and controlling 500-plus pound motorcycles takes serious skill. The day’s second challenge, the Sena Rock Challenge, pushed teams to maintain consistent times across a granite slab and around boulders. Team USA landed in ninth place, gaining a few points but still stayed towards the bottom of the standings.

Namibia’s sandy environment kept throwing obstacles at the riders. They wrapped up the day by setting up camp at the stunning Spitzkoppe, aiming to overcome future tests with renewed vigor.

By the end of Day 2, the top spots went to South Africa, Germany, and an International team. Team USA stood in 16th place but enthusiasts are hopeful for a comeback as the competition heats up.
