Apple has rolled out iOS 18 for iPhone users, introducing a range of features ahead of the iPhone 16 release. Showcased at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, this update brings major advancements in home screen and control center customization, along with notable updates to the Messages and Photos apps.
You can now enjoy more flexibility in placing app icons and widgets on the home screen and control center. Resize them, apply color tints, and even extend Dark Mode to your icons for automatic adjustments. Control center improvements let you group controls, resize them, and display all available controls, including those from third-party apps.
The Messages app has received several enhancements like additional text effects, new formatting options, and expanded “Tapback” reactions. Schedule messages for later delivery and benefit from Rich Communication Services (RCS) for better media resolution and read receipts.
Check out the new standalone Passwords app for simpler access and setup of two-factor authentication codes. The redesigned Photos app organizes images by topic, allows you to pin collections, and offers advanced filters for decluttering.
Despite the buzz, the AI-based feature Apple Intelligence, highlighted at WWDC, isn’t included in this rollout. Expect it in iOS 18.1 next month, promising enhanced Siri functions, AI-generated emojis, and automated file organization.
Additional updates in iOS 18 include:
- Live audio transcriptions
- Map improvements
- New features in the Wallet app
- An adjustable flashlight beam width
This update aims to refine your user experience, offering more personalization and improved app functionalities.
